  Tip: Bring in your comps from the houses sold in your area the past twelve (12) months, pictures of what needs to be upgraded and fixes needed, and AT LEAST three (3) estimates from contractors to show the panel what the cost would be to get to the level of the comps. Aparently, to upgrade our home to the comps in our area we meed an air/heat unit to adequately fit our home, hardwood floors, and granite countertops. The panel felt this would only cost $4,000. So this is how much the panel lowered our appraisal by. What an insult to my intelligence. The panel doesn't let you rebuttal after they state their opinion.

  I went in for an informal review today. Met with James Randle. On a 1-5 scale with 5 outstanding and 1 awful I'd rate the following. Professionalism 5, Explaining the process 5, Understanding the data presented 5, Delivering a reasonable assessment 5. Did I get everything I wanted... no but the process made sense and was fair in my opinion. I was impressed with how I was treated and my concerns were handled. I highly recommend you go through the process of an informal protest. Bring good data, pictures and estimates to show how your property might not be worth similar properties. Bring a copy for the appraiser. Show up early and get you name on the list so you don't have to wait long.

  A total waste of time going thru this protest. Very unfair treatment as they wont listen to anything else other than what is the sales price of the house near you and then an average, that's it, nothing else considered. The main problem is that there is no regulation that can protect the citizen anymore from government taxes. Like the Robin Hood movie "Bags of money are very comfortable to prop your pillow up with and sleep on."

  Print everything out. We tried to upload items for a protest about a week before the protest and the website wouldn't let us. We called and they said bring the items the day of the protest. Except, they forgot to mention it, but paper copies only. All of the electronic pics could not be uploaded. So no photos allowed. Also they did not have my name on the deed just my wife's. Not sure why or who removed it somewhere some time. Just frustrating and seems shady.

  I just bought a business in Plano. This is supposed to be an exciting time of my life, becoming part of this new community that I hear so much about. However getting this office to assist has been a less than pleasant experience. I have now called three times to simply find out a couple of processes and they are rude and frankly they don't care. I still don't have an answer or even any help. If they don't like their job then leave it, don't treat the citizens who pay their paychecks bad. What a nice way to welcome new businesses and members to the community.
