  I have used Liberty Tax for 3 years now and have always found them reasonably friendly and you got your refund anticipation loan back quickly. This year I did not qualify for the refund anticipation loan because I did not get back $2,000 or more. There have been some policy changes that I believe to be pretty much universal throughout all of the chain tax services. Here is what I have a problem with. I paid $400 to have some guy to fill out a no-brainer form only to get my tax refund in 8-15 days, which is what I could have done myself at irs.gov. The only reason I did not turn around and walk out is that I was foolish enough to think I would again qualify for the RAL and did not budget accordingly. They were offering $50 cash to do your tax return there so I accepted but I felt very, very stupid. I spent $400 to get $50 because I needed gas money to get to work since I had spent all my money thinking I was going to get the RAL. This is not Liberty Tax's fault, but I would like everyone to know there is absolutely no benefit to go to them with the new rule in effect. In fact, it will probably take LONGER to do my taxes with them instead of using the free online form on irs.gov because they still have to process my return through their bank and then deposit it into mine If I had just done it through the IRS I could have gotten it sooner and saved money. The people who do the taxes do not seem skilled at all, they just enter information into software.. something I could easily do myself. They are nice people, just don't go there thinking you will qualify for the RAL since you got it last year. Again, you have to be getting at least $2,000 refund to qualify for the RAL, otherwise the wait to get your refund is the same as going directly to the IRS. I doubt I will return to Liberty Tax next year. I feel like I paid entirely too much and received little benefit.
